The Call is an American rock band formed in Santa Cruz, California in 1980. The main lineup consisted of members Michael Been, Scott Musick, Tom Ferrier, and Jim Goodwin. The Call is possibly the most underrated band in the history of music. Adjectives that one often hears when describing the band include “powerful”, “moving”, “indispensable”, “emotional”, “passionate”, “spiritual”, the list goes on. Some called them America’s U2.
One thing is certain, they deserved a better fate than the one dealt to them. For anyone who had the opportunity to see them perform live, the memories were unforgettable.
The band released nine studio albums over the next two decades before disbanding in 2000. Their 1986 song, “I Still Believe (Great Design)”, was covered by Tim Cappello and included in the 1987 film The Lost Boys. The band also achieved significant success in 1989 with “Let the Day Begin”, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard U.S. Mainstream Rock chart and was later used as a campaign theme song for Al Gore’s 2000 Presidential Campaign.
In 2024, the band members went back to the closet “vault” and discovered some live recordings and nearly complete studio tracks featuring Michael Been’s voice. They resolved to go back into the studio to finish off these recordings and issued them on a brand new studio album, The Lost Tapes.
The band is also issuing a remastered version of Reconciled and Into The Woods on 2LP vinyl and double compact disc (CD) in limited edition.
